On June 26, 2024, over 500 people gathered at the Buffalo Field Campaign (BFC) headquarters in West Yellowstone, Montana, to honor the birth of a White Buffalo Calf on June 4, 2024, to the wild Yellowstone herds. This event celebrated a significant moment in Native American prophecy, symbolizing both a blessing and a warning. The ceremony, which took place on Shoshone-Bannock land, was presided over by Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe. He named the calf “Wakan Gli,” meaning Sacred Return or Comes Holy.
The gathering highlighted the deep cultural, spiritual, and historical connections Native tribes have with the buffalo, with representatives from various tribes speaking about their sacred relationship with the Buffalo Nation. The event also honored Rosalie Little Thunder, co-founder of BFC, who passed away, and emphasized the importance of protecting the wild Yellowstone bison.
The day was also linked to the World Peace and Prayer Day, held annually on June 21, founded by Chief Looking Horse, emphasizing global unity and the need for positive energy to ensure a better future for the next generations.
