Winter Emergency Boxes

Winter Emergency Boxes

  • Description – During the cold winter months when the weather and poor road conditions can be a threat to Native Elders, the Winter Emergency Box service ensures that food and other critical supplies are readily available. Working with Elderly Nutrition Centers, we provide emergency supplies that our Program Partners deliver to Elders in their community. Essentials may include items such as emergency blankets, candles, flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, jackets, and water.
  • DBA/Region – Sioux Nation Relief Fund (SNRF) (Northern Plains), Southwest Reservation Aid® (SWRA) (Southwest)
  • Service Type – Immediate Relief, Donor funded

I love receiving the Winter Emergency Box supplies. They really come in handy, and I use everything.

– Sarah E., Arizona

I live in really poor housing conditions. The home was never winterized, so it’s cold in the winter and extra hot in the summer. Everybody lives like that down here. We’re always in need of groceries; always out of something. Some of what we need is in this [winter emergency] box, so it makes a big difference.

– Carleen L., South Dakota
