The Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian is showcasing an exhibit titled “Making a Statement,” featuring two gowns worn by Oscar-nominated actress Lily Gladstone. The exhibit runs from February 28, 2025, to March 2026. The gowns, designed by Gucci in collaboration with Indigenous artist Joe Big Mountain, were worn by Gladstone at the 96th Academy Awards and Vanity Fair Oscars party in 2024. Gladstone, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, made history as the first Native American nominated for Best Actress. The gowns feature intricate porcupine quillwork, a traditional Native art form.

The exhibit also includes public programs such as talks with designers and artists, a fashion showcase, and a curator-led tour. These events celebrate Indigenous designers and their contributions to fashion. The exhibit highlights the collaboration between Native artists and high-end fashion brands, showcasing unique cultural craftsmanship.
