On Monday, Speaker Crystalyne Curley visited Navajo veteran John Draper, who is set to receive a new home after a 15-year wait. Draper, a U.S. Army veteran, is currently homeless and living in a deteriorating mobile home. He expressed gratitude for the Many Farms Chapter Veterans’ efforts in clearing the land for his new home and for other veterans who voluntarily moved down the housing list to help expedite his application.

Jacqueline Begaye, Secretary and Treasurer of the Many Farms Chapter Veterans Organization, praised the strong unity among local veterans and thanked Speaker Curley for her leadership in securing housing for veterans. Curley, along with her assistant Gabe Freeland, has been instrumental in advocating for housing and providing updates to veterans.

Begaye also announced that three other homeless veterans in the Many Farms area will soon receive homes through the Veterans Housing Program, funded by $50 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. Speaker Curley highlighted the urgent need for housing, especially as many veterans, including those aging and homeless, wait for support.
