Dominique “Molly” Nez, a 35-year-old Navajo woman, died on June 13, 2025, after suffering a traumatic brain injury from what her family believes was a violent assault on June 10 in St. Michaels, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation. The family has accused the Navajo Police Department of being slow to investigate, fearing Molly’s death would be another unresolved case in the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW).
Initially unidentified and listed as “Jane Doe,” Molly was flown to a hospital in Albuquerque, where her family later identified her and made the painful decision to take her off life support. The FBI is now investigating, and Navajo leaders, along with the MMIW task force, are calling for urgency, transparency, and justice.
Molly was remembered as a loving, free-spirited woman of faith who had endured personal trauma but continued to uplift others. Her death sparked a community response, with many demanding answers and carrying red posters at her funeral that read, “Justice for Molly” and “Say Her Name.”
