The Washington State History Museum will close from January 13 to February 17 for the installation of a new permanent indigenous exhibition, “This is Native Land,” which will open in summer 2025. The museum is offering half-off admission to special exhibitions until January 12. The new exhibit will focus on Indian boarding schools, forced removal, and cultural genocide, portraying Washington history from an indigenous perspective with an emphasis on tribal sovereignty. The museum’s Great Hall will undergo updates, with some props like a long house and trolley being removed. The exhibition will highlight Native Americans’ strength, resilience, and stories of hope. The museum will reopen on February 18 with parts of the Great Hall open.
