In 2023, Oklahoma’s tribal nations contributed $23.4 billion to the state’s economy, according to a study using data from 19 tribes. The report found that tribes directly employed over 55,000 people and supported nearly 140,000 jobs in total, resulting in $7.8 billion in wages and benefits. Tribal gaming and related businesses generated $7.4 billion in revenue, with over a third of visitors coming from out of state, boosting local tourism. Through exclusivity fees, tribes contributed $351 million to Oklahoma education, in addition to $133.6 million spent on tribal education programs and scholarships. They also provided $582 million in healthcare services and donated $39.3 million to communities and universities. Since 2019, tribal economic activity has grown by $4.9 billion. Tribal leaders emphasized their lasting presence in the state, their investment in rural areas, and their role in providing essential services, positioning themselves as key partners in Oklahoma’s continued development.
