Students from the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) recently showcased their research at the 2024 Technology-Enhanced Language Instruction and Culture (TELIC) Conference, an international event co-founded by UTPB faculty member Dr. Amin Davoodi. One notable participant, senior Dallas McWilliams, presented his research on using technology to preserve Native American heritage language and culture, drawing from his personal heritage as a member of the Houma Nation. McWilliams highlighted the challenges Indigenous nations face in preserving their languages and proposed technology as a solution to bridge resource gaps. He credited Dr. Davoodi for mentorship and support in preparing for the conference.
McWilliams expressed the value of his experience, emphasizing the benefits of undergraduate research and the knowledge gained from hearing global perspectives. Dr. Davoodi praised McWilliams for his dedication and passion for the project. McWilliams hopes his experience will inspire other UTPB students to pursue research opportunities. The TELIC Conference highlights UTPB’s commitment to academic excellence and global collaboration.
